
Cancer Do's and Don'ts
- Don't blame yourself for the cancer
- Do seek out a support group or self-help group if you need it
- Do follow health guidelines regarding screening, tests, prevention measures,
and follow-up procedures to keep track of your health
- Don't believe the old myth that cancer = death
- Do insist on full partnership with your doctor in the treatment of your disease
- Do ask about potential side effects from treatments
and discuss them if and when they occur
- Don't panic about undergoing treatments
- Do communicate with mental health professionals if you are having
severe feelings of depression, axiety or guilt
- Do use coping methods that have helped you in the past
- Don't keep worries about your illness a secret
- Do use mind-body methods that you find helpful in coping
- Do re-explore any spiritual values and beliefs that have helped you in the past
- Don't worry that you cannot maintain a positive attitude 24 hours a day
- Do laugh a lot
- Do accentuate the positive
- Do work on your own support systems
- Do live one day at a time
- Don't blame yourself for the cancer.....
